2013-07-07 A Wee Roundup (With Show Info!)

Some of what's here you already know if you keep an eye on our Facebook or Twitter or if you have joined our mailing list. Much of this is unique to the blog. I'm a giver...Heh

First off, show dates. Cos we really want you at our shows. There's little point us leaving the practice space if we don't have you to play for, lovelies.

There will be posters and Facebook events and such, but here's the info to save the dates:

  • 17 August at White Rabbit, Seattle, WA
  • 18 September at High Dive, Seattle, WA
  • 4 October at The Mix, Seattle, WA

We're working to get you a new song a month, and we're excited to be out there making noise for you again!

In other things that excite my brain and heart...One great thing about Seattle is that we've got the EMP (Experience Music Project). I don't get to go as regularly as I'd like, but I got to go recently and check out the exhibit about Jimi Hendrix in London and the exhibit about Women Who Rock. (Seeing the Jimi stuff with my dad, who was in town a few hours, felt very right.) Both exhibits were intriguing and inspiring in their own ways. We just take Jimi as a matter of fact now, but that man was something unheard of in his time. (Plus I have a fascination with the style and performance side of rock music. In addition to his great outfits, one of his style choices was that he invited his bassist to be in the band just because the man looked great. Fortunately, he also quickly picked up bass....)

The Women Who Rock was pretty clothing-centric, but I confess that some of those outfits (worn by women who are/were powerhouses) got me giddy. Sometimes, getting a sense of where things you love had their beginnings can help you feel more grounded and grateful for where you've been able to go. I walked away with loads of thoughts and serious gratitude both for what Hendrix and all those women did to lay the foundation for what I'm doing now and for having the EMP near so I can really take it in. If you're in the area, it's a great way to spend some hours. Plus, it's merged with the SciFi Museum, and you know that makes my geek heart happy. Life is all about love and music and geeky goodness!

Here. Since I didn't say much about the scifi part of things, here's a picture of the side of the museum that makes me happy every time I walk by.

And, finally, in other people's music...I just want to squeal about this brilliant year in music. Oh my stars! As you know from this vlog, I am well excited about 2013 and the many new musical releases. You also might recall that my musical trinity are David Bowie, Manic Street Preachers, and Placebo. Placebo told us there was an album coming, Bowie gave us one without warning, and Manics have hinted there might be one. Just the last few days, Manics went from hinting to sharing lyrics and dates. And it turns out that the new Placebo and new Manics singles are out Monday, and the albums for both are out 16 September. I'm pretty much in full-on fangirl mode at the moment. And this is me gently nudging you toward all three of the albums in question. (Whilst my dad was in town, I got to play the Bowie for him, which was kind of an awesome full circle of musical experience there, and he was well impressed. As he noted, Bowie still has 'It' and still manages to stay varied and current whilst evoking all the goodness from his past albums.)

So there's a wee roundup of random bits. Now, back to work on new songs and getting ready to see your pretty faces at shows again.

If you've got questions or things you'd like to read here or see on the vlog, drop me an email, lovely.
