2013-05-04 What I Did During Spring Break

First, let me tell you what I'm doing after spring break...

Hey! Just like in January, there's a little more in here this month than was in the newsletter. I'm working to make sure that there's not complete overlap between any of the ways we connect with you. Right now, my focus is Facebook, Twitter, the newsletter (for those on the mailing list), and updating this site (the blog, the vlog, and a redesign now and again---maybe soon!). If you keep an eye on those places, I won't just shove adverts down your throat. I want to keep you updated on how to connect with and hear us, but I also share random silliness and cat pictures. And if there's some social media that you're using that you don't think we are, or if there's a different way you wish we'd use something, let me know! If I want to connect with myself, I don't need to go online. Heh. But, if I want to connect to you (I do), I need to figure out the things that do connect. Of course, that means we're working on music. I'm pondering video options (oh, yes, music videos...my head is full of them...). I'm trying to figure out what you'd like to see or hear. So, make it easier for a girl and let me know? (And, for those who're reading the newsletter too, there's a bit more new sprinkled in what's below. I feel like I can get away with being even more verbose in blogs...Whee!)

What I Did During Spring Break

The last couple months, we've taken a bit of a spring break. Though I suspect my spring break involved fewer drinks, wet t-shirts, and other such shenanigans than most. Which is probably for the best, as it means I can tell you what I've been up to without scandalising my dad or ruining any relatives' political aspirations. Ha!

I hope, if you missed us during the couple months there was no newsletter, you chose to follow us on Facebook or Twitter. People who did that have probably been getting their fix of me and little Varnish tidbits.

Now, you're wondering if, and perhaps hoping that, the end to our little break and return to newsletters and all the other online posts means we've finished our bassist hunt. We don't have any official announcements, but I can say that we have spent a little time practising with someone who seems promising. We could be back on stage sooner rather than later. I hope you're at least half as excited about that as I am! (And, just in case things don't go as expected, I've also been looking at how we can move forward with creating and sharing music--including doing shows, cos I lovelovelove shows--one way or another.)

I've spent most of this spring break recharging, to be honest. Physically, mentally, artistically. I've been doing very un-rockstar things like sleeping plenty and eating well. I've been reading inspirational things and listening to great music that makes me aspire to even more Varnish-y goodness. And, of course, I've been writing new lyrics and poking at other creative endeavours (for example, I'm writing a comic book with my cool artist friend Maxx) in an effort to expand and energise my artistic self. (That just sounded really cheesy, didn't it? Ugh. I promise, I keep the cheese out of the lyrics...)

Here, why don't you read one of the inspiring things that just crossed my eyes. James Rhodes: 'Find what you love and let it kill you'

See these eyes so blue? Yep, these are the ones I read inspiring essays with... (And read David Bowie lyrics with, in case you're wondering whether that was a quote on purpose. Heh.)

We actually had things going on that made it so that our spring break wasn't just a break from me posting things like blogs. The practices have been way too sparse since you last heard from us on this blog, and coming back together to make music has felt awesome. Seeing each other outside practices isn't the same as making noise together, creating. So, unlike other spring breaks, we're glad ours is over. Yeah!

Any suggestions for content? I'm especially looking for questions, as the vlog this month will be me answering your questions. Drop me an email, lovely.
